Highlights from 2024: A year of growth
2024 was a year of exciting new ventures for the Giving Machine Omaha! For our second year in the Westroads Mall, we secured a prime retail space right next to Santa Claus, offering ample room for festive holiday activities. A major highlight was the enthusiastic support from Steven Ashworth, star point guard of the Creighton Bluejays. He brought his entire team to sign autographs and encourage donations, creating a buzz of excitement and community spirit.
Transforming lives through giving
In 2024, the Giving Machine connected generous donors with vital local charities, making a tangible difference in our community:
- Children's Nebraska: Donors contributed an incredible $9,760, providing 62 overnight stays at the Rainbow House and 84 heart bereavement necklaces, bringing comfort to families in tragic circumstances.
- The Foster Care Closet: A total of $10,745 was collected, enabling the purchase of 180 backpacks and 483 pairs of new shoes for children entering foster care.
- CIRA: $16,400 was raised, which helped offer 47 job readiness courses and supplied 85 families with a week's worth of groceries.
- New Visions Homeless Services: With $13,760, they provided 69 sleeping bags and 207 hot meals to those in need.
- Project Harmony: Contributions of $15,505 funded 24 car seats and 152 visits with a facility dog.
- Women's Center for Advancement: $14,690 provided 46 bus passes and 64 safe nights.
A memorable milestone for the Foster Care Closet
One of the most heartwarming achievements of 2024 was our continued partnership with the Foster Care Closet. This marked our second year working together, and it brought unique opportunities to support their growth. We were thrilled to help them move to a new, larger location and even branch out to establish a second site, further extending their reach and impact on children in foster care.

The main takeaway from the 2024 Giving Machine experience was the overwhelming excitement surrounding our first collaboration with Creighton Athletics. This partnership opened up new possibilities for future community engagement and demonstrated the incredible potential for collective impact.
